Abstract

Cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) leakage occurs as a consequence of severe head trauma in
which the cranial vault or base of the skull is fractured. We experienced an interesting
case of traumatic CSF rhinorrhea associated with acupuncture. A 45 year old man
suffered from bloody rhinorrhea and headaches after acupuncture was done illegally for
the purpose of cleansing the head. Isovist CT cisternography and MR cisternogram had
been used to localize the site of the leakage and showed the leakage in the
sphenoethmoidal angle. The leakage ceased by conservative management and lumbar
CSF drainage without any complications. We discussed the diagnostic approach of the
traumatic CSF rhinorrhea and its management.
